HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOY

OK, now I'm able to have some logical thoughts on this whole deal here...

6 years and 72 million dollars for a player like Miguel Tejada is a bargain, folks. A freaking bargain. This guy is an MVP-caliber player, and believe me, he's a lot better than Carlos Guillen.

$3 million in 2004 ($4 million signing bonus)
$9 million in 2005 ($2 million signing bonus)
$10 million in 2006 ($2 million signing bonus)
$12 million in 2007
$13 million in 2008
$13 million in 2009
($2 million signing bonus in 2010 and 2011)

Sure, that's a lot of money. But for a franchise like the Seattle Mariners, that should NOT be an issue. This team is in the TOP 5 in revenue in all of baseball. This team draws over 3 million fans to Safeco Field. This team is one of the more competitive teams in baseball.

So what went wrong here???

It's simple. They lowballed Tejada big time. You don't tell a player like Miguel Tejada, "hey, we're only going to offer you 4 guaranteed years." You just don't do that. But the Mariners organization is like that. It's very sickening to say the least.

If you can blame one person other than the brass here, it's Ichiro. David is right in his previous post on His Heiness. Ichiro is NOT worth more than 10 million. He was an MVP, as was Tejada. But let's be honest, who's the better ballplayer? There is no question about this. And if Ichiro does get more than 10 million, further cramping this ballclub's ability to make the 2004 roster better, then, well, I don't know what to think anymore.

The Mariners are not getting Vladimir Guerrero. That's been said for weeks now at Sports and Bremertonians, so don't expect me or David to get on that wagon now. But hey, WE'RE GOING FOR SCOTT SPIEZIO!!!!!!!!

Yes, the same Scott Spiezio from the band Sandfrog. I'm not a fan of Sandfrog at all. But they are huge fans of Sevendust, so they can't be all that bad. At the very worst, they are better than Stick Figure (Jack McDowell's band) and Scott Radinsky's band.

In all seriousness though, Spiezio could be a real possibility by the M's, if they do decide to deal Greg Colbrunn to Arizona for Quinton McCRACKen. Spiezio isn't that bad of a player by any means. But man, I have a hard time getting excited about Spiezio after the Tejada debacle.

If there is any way for the Mariners brass to make this big aching pain I'm feeling go away, then by all means, go get Magglio Ordonez from the White Sox. Trade Freddy Garcia, Randy Winn, and a minor leaguer and get the deal done. I don't give a damn if Maggs is only signed for 2004. TAKE A GODDAMN RISK FOR ONCE, M'S BRASS!!!! Magglio can play, folks. But you didn't need me to tell you that.

2004 should be a season where the M's just say "what the f#&%" and just go for it. It will be Edgar Martinez and John Olerud's final season. Those are two of the biggest class acts the game of baseball have ever seen. I would hate to see them leave the game of baseball going out with another 93 win season and no postseason. It just wouldn't be right.

But right now, I'm afraid of another 93 win season and no playoffs. The Mariners will have Carlos Guillen back at shortstop for 2004. The M's will probably cave in to Ichiro's demands because they just can't stand to see all of the tourists stay in Japan. Dan Wilson will be the starting catcher because he's such a nice guy. Willie Bloomquist will have another 3 home run game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Bremerton Sun will have a cover story on him. Raul Ibanez will prove all of us right when he sucks major ass again. The last 3 years were an abberation, folks. And Bob Melvin will cost the Mariners 5 games, again.

Hell, I have the right to change my opinion.

But if and only if the Mariners add a big time player or two to this lineup.

Sadly, that player won't be Miguel Tejada. He will have a smashing time in Baltimore, hoping and praying that Ray Lewis is on his good side.

And yes, the Miggy Hot Stove is now discontinued. Too bad, so sad.
