SEAHAWKS TRENCHES, 7/26/05

Some quick news on your Seattle Seahawks...

Punter Donnie Jones is no longer a Seahawk. Jones was released by the Seahawks last Friday. This isn't a shocking move, because new special teams coach Bob Casullo is a big fan of Leo Araguz, who signed with Seattle in the spring. As for Jones, he didn't stay on the unemployment line long. He signed with Miami yesterday, reuniting with former LSU head coach Nick Saban. Jones will challenge incumbent Matt Turk for the Dolphins' punting job.

Wonder why Anthony Simmons hasn't signed with anyone yet? His left wrist is still bothering him. He had a second surgery to repair his wrist, but the recovery period is a long one. In fact, Simmons may miss the 2005 season. Keep this in mind when you think that the Seahawks defense got worse over the offseason. It's not like Simmons would have been able to play this season anyway. Jamie Sharper is a HUGE upgrade over Simmons. I can't stress that point enough.

Rookies report to Cheney today, but which draft picks have signed with the team?

---5th round pick DE Jeb Huckeba
---7th round picks LB Cornelius Wortham and G Doug Nienhuis

C Chris Spencer (1st), LB Lofa Tatupu (2nd), QB David Greene (3rd), LB LeRoy Hill (3rd), OT Ray Willis (4th), and TE/FB Tony Jackson (6th) remain unsigned. However, we could see a flurry of signings today, so we'll keep you posted.

The wait is almost over.
