BILLS/SEAHAWKS
*#*#*#[NOTE: second half of recap FINALLY posted ~8p, though ready since about half an hour after the game ended]
Well, I know what I want out of this football game today. I want a win, though I know with the Bills' defense and the Seahawks' offense being nowhere close to clicking, even as this is Week 12 on the schedule.
To the game. The CBS crew is Don Criqui and Steve Tasker. Way to work in that Buffalo influence. Sheesh. I'm surprised Pete Metzelaars isn't doing the sideline reporting.
1ST QUARTER
>> 1st Buffalo possession (BUF 40, Brown kicks out of bounds, YAY SPECIAL TEAMS!)
Moulds catch over middle for 21 to SEA 39 (YAY BACKFIELD!!)
14:26 Lee Evans right side catch for 7 (they're picking on
13:50 Moulds overthrown down right sideline near end zone
13:46 Henry first down catch, Henry down on field
13:14 McGahee for four yards through middle
12:38 McGahee dropped in backfield for 3-yd loss (SEA 30, 3rd/7)
11:55 McGahee screen pass for FIFTEEN DAMN YARDS. That's ANOTHER SEAHAWK DEFENSE FIRST DOWN! ALL RIGHT!
11:27 Evans overthrown right side in end zone
11:20 McGahee right side for 5 yd (SEA 2, 3rd/G)
***10:39 McGahee bounces off tackle in middle, runs straight through to end zone (BUF 7-0)
Hey, way to go, guys!! Nice freakin' start!! Same ol' defense, and this performance by the special teams makes you wonder if Pete Rodriguez' firing was really warranted because now they're even worse. Who's the defensive coordinator of this team again? Does it even matter? Is defensive coordinator for this team just as much a black hole as third base and catcher are for the Mariners? This is infuriating. And yes, I am cursing at my television already.
>> 1st Seattle possession (SEA 31, nice return by Kerry Carter)
Alexander stuffed for loss of 1 on right side
Strong catch over middle after bobbling (3rd/6)
9:07 Jackson catch right side nearly dropped, but good for first down
8:49 Alexander left side for four yards
8:10 Strong on dumpoff left side, brutally drops pass
8:07 Takeo Spikes bats down the screen pass. Hasselbeck having a pass tipped? Never seen that before. Boy, I'll never get tired of that.
Come on, Ken Walter!! Great start by the Seahawks' offense. Mack Strong can't hold onto the ball, and Matt Hasselbeck still loves to get his passes tipped at the line of scrimmage. Good times.
>> 2nd Buffalo possession (BUF 29)
7:53 McGahee right side goes nowhere, Jonas Jennings slow to get up, attended to by trainers, and Travis Henry's ankle is getting X-rayed
7:21 Bledsoe pressured, but Shelton is wide open on the left side, he catches and runs FOR 22 YARDS (SEA 48)
7:02 McGahee to the SEA 42
6:30 Antonio Cochran SACKS Bledsoe from the blind side (3rd/11)
5:58 AARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!! Evans catches on left side for first down (SEA 35), Lucas not with 3 yards of him
5:30 McGahee tries to go outside on the left side, and Wistrom nails him for a 5-yd loss
###4:39 Bledsoe throws to left side and overthrows wide-open tight end, Hamlin PICKS, runs to the other side of field for blockers, stopped around the SEA 41
That's more like it. Well, the ending part, anyway. Ken Hamlin saves the defense's behinds on that possession, where the Seahawks had allowed two big plays, one of them a catch on 3rd-and-11 (nullifying the Cochran sack).
>> 2nd Seattle possession (SEA 42)
4:35 Hasselbeck overthrows Rice down the left sideline
4:31 Alexander tries to bounce out to the right side, hit for a huge loss (3rd/13)
3:49 pass over middle to Mili, but one yard short of the first down; Bills really brought the blitz, but luckily it was picked up
Three and out!!! Way to take advantage of that interception, guys!!!
>> 3rd Buffalo possession (BUF 31, 15-yd penalty when Koutouvides plows Clements on the fair catch...FIRE THE SPECIAL TEAMS COACH NOW!!!)
2:46 McGahee through middle for only 2
2:05 first-down catch Lee Evans pushes off on Ken Lucas and gets 24 yards down the left sideline
1:26 Moulds over the middle for 13 yards and ANOTHER first down
0:48 McGahee to the SEA 27, about 3 yd, McGahee helped off the field...that'd dicey for the Bills
0:04 ball tipped left side, caught by Moulds for first down (SEA 15) AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!
You know, why do the Seahawks even have a defense? Of course, you could kinda go existentialist and question whether the Seahawks really have a defense at all. Other than the Hamlin pick, Drew Bledsoe has been throwing the ball at will against the Seattle defense. It's just sickening. Even when Bledsoe gets picked, the Seahawks go three-and-out on offense. Even when his pass gets tipped, Eric Moulds comes down with it anyway. I hate this.
2ND QUARTER
14:51 McGahee back on field, goes through right side to SEA 12, 2 yd
14:17 Campbell over middle catches for 5 yd (SEA 7, 3rd/3)
13:34 Moulds in right side of end zone overthrown...HOLY CRAP!! A third down stop by the defense?!!?!! Wow!!!!
***13:30 Lindell from 25 (BUF 10-0)
Allowing three points instead of seven is small solace. Very small solace. They need to stop this team. They've stopped the running game for the most part, but the pass coverage is absolutely abhorrent right now. THE BILLS ARE 0-4 ON THE ROAD, PEOPLE!!
>> 3rd Seattle possession (SEA 30, decent return by Carter)
13:21 Alexander outside on the left for 3
12:45 Engram on his knees catches and slips forward for 10 yards and a first down on the right side (SEA 43)
12:13 Jackson wide open on the left side DROPS THE PASS. STOP IMPERSONATING SHAWN DAWKINS
12:08 Hannam dumpoff on right side for no gain (3rd/10)
11:28 ball over middle to Engram off hands, flags on Kevin Thomas for illegal contact...FIRST DOWN!!
11:21 Alexander outside to the left for 10 yards and a FIRST DOWN on his biggest run of the day so far (BUF 42)
10:45 incomplete pass over middle...good coverage
10:40 Alexander through the left side for 14 yards and another first down (BUF 28)
9:58 JACKSON DROPS THE FREAKIN' BALL AGAIN. HE WAS WIDE F***ING OPEN. Flags on Edwards for roughing the passer (crown of helmet)...FIRST DOWN!!!
9:51 Urban sliding catch over middle to the 3
9:16 Alexander through the middle for maybe a yard, but a first-and-goal
8:39 ball right side to Jackson incomplete
8:34 four-receiver set, no Alexander on the field, Hasselbeck runs left side about a yard short of the chains
***7:51 Brown from 18 or however long it was (BUF 10-3)
Can someone tell me why the hell Shaun Alexander isn't on the field on a 3rd-and-goal just short of the goal line? Can someone freakin' answer that question for me??!!?!!
>> 4th Buffalo possession (BUF 38, a line drive kick and just another opposing start on the wrong side of their own 30)
7:37 THE SEAHAWKS JUST FELL FOR THE REVERSE. Evans on the left side for a first down to the SEA 48, flags on Buffalo for illegal substitution though...repeat play
7:05 McGahee catch over the middle for 10 yards (2nd/5)
6:32 McGahee left side for 2 (3rd/3)
5:48 Evans on a pitch runs outside to the right for 15...hey, I thought it was going to be a big pass instead of a big run. I did think there'd be a first down though (SEA 40)
###5:18 Ken Lucas PICKS the deep ball over the middle inside the 3 and goes into the end zone...that's a touchback
You know, thank goodness these big plays can help me refraining from railing the defense for shoddy pass coverage every once in a while. I do get tired of it.
>> 4th Seattle possession (SEA 20)
5:13 Alexander left side for 3
4:30 Darrell Jackson CATCHES THE BALL??!!!?!! It's good for 13 on the left side and a first down (SEA 34)
3:54 Jackson down right sideline on a very deep ball nearly catches it, but the ball was underthrown...could have been called a pass interference though. I bet Warren Moon is on the radio right now saying that the receivers have got to make the big play sometimes.
3:48 Alexander on right side gets 3 yards out of what should have been nothing (3rd/7)
3:10 Rice overthrown down right sideline
Ken Walter is getting broken in quite quickly, is he not? He'll get more punts as the Seattle offense goes nowhere.
>> 5th Buffalo possession (BUF 27, it wasn't a long return, so that's a start)
2:53 McGahee nowhere on the right side, but Wistrom jumped...even I saw this
2:15 McGahee through left side for 4, just short of the chains (2nd/1)
1:53 McGahee on the right side busts off his first big run of the day, a first down to the
1:36 Burns right side for 2
1:12 pass right side incomplete to Moulds (3rd/8), timeout Buffalo
1:08 ANOTHER FIRST DOWN CATCH, Evans on the left side to the SEA 35
0:50 Bledsoe over the middle to Smith (SEA 29), another timeout
0:44 Bledsoe right side Moulds for ANOTHER first down (SEA 20)
0:36 spike
0:30 Evans for his fifth catch of the day on the left side for YET ANOTHER FIRST DOWN...Rocky Bernard down on the play, but he walks off under his own power
0:21 Euhus catch left side to the 3
0:10 spike
***0:06 Bledsoe loft pass, caught by Evans for a touchdown (BUF 17-3)
Yup, this team sucks. Unless they really pull something off in the second half or unless the Bills implode, this game might already be over. The Bills are using 10-15 yard passes and just slicing the Seahawks up. The Seahawks are also finding out who the hell Lee Evans is. The damn rookie is tearing the Seahawks' defense a new one.
I've got the NFL.com halftime stats in front of me as I type this, and Evans has caught for 70 yards. Bledsoe has thrown for 198 yards, and it's only halftime. THE BILLS' OFFENSE IS 7-FOR-8 ON THIRD DOWN!!!! The Seahawks are 1-for-5 on third down. The Bills have 250 total yards to the Seahawks' 92.
3RD QUARTER
>> 6th Buffalo possession (ON-SIDE KICK BY BUFFALO. MASTERFUL. Lindell falls on it. BUF 41)
14:53 McGahee right side for 6
14:17 McGahee left side for first down (SEA 46)
13:33 pass right side Moulds for 2 yards (SEA 44)
12:56 McGahee nearly down in backfield, still gets two yards (3rd/6)
###12:05 pass over middle PICKED BY HAMLIN, but with flags on Wistrom for an illegal block in the back by Wistrom...a 33-yard return partially negated
>> 5th Seattle possession (SEA 29)
12:02 Spikes tips a Hasselbeck pass to the left side AGAIN, flags taken back for no pass interference
###11:54 Hasselbeck tipped on pass to the right side, PASS PICKED
THE SEAHAWKS ABSOLUTELY SUCK. This is abysmal. Absolutely abysmal.
>> 7th Buffalo possession (BUF 49)
11:48 pitch to McGahee left for 4, flags (Buffalo holding, play comes back)
11:34 screen pass left to Campbell for 8
11:08 McGahee left for no gain (3rd/9)
10:25 Aiken right side for eleven yards and ANOTHER FIRST DOWN (SEA 39)
9:43 Burns through middle to the SEA 38
9:03 Bledsoe too much juice over the middle to McGahee (3rd/9)
8:57 draw to Smith only gets one yard
8:13 Lindell wide left from 53, with flags FOR UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT ON MORRIS FOR LEAPING...did you hear Hamlin say "BULLSH**" into the ref's microphone? I did. FIRST DOWN!!
8:05 McGahee left side for no gain, driven back
7:24 quick pass Campbell right side for 18 to the SEA 2
***6:44 McGahee through the left side for a touchdown (BUF 24-3)
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE ROUT IS ON!!! I'm almost hoping the Bills just run up the score because the Seahawks don't deserve to win this game. They're absolutely listless, and they could consider this payback for the last few halfhearted wins. They couldn't get away with it forever, and they're paying for it dearly today. If you read the last few game posts I've done, I've been ripping the Seattle defense up on third down, just letting them have it. It's finally caught up to them today, and oh, how brutally this team is getting thumped. Worse yet, they can't afford as much to hand the ball to Shaun Alexander because they'll have to worry about the clock soon.
>> 6th Seattle possession (SEA 23)
6:31 Alexander outside right for no gain, he's only got 33 yards on the day
5:56 Rice right side for first down to SEA 36 (13 yd)
5:24 Mili catches right side, fumbles but recovers, good for 6 yards to the SEA 42
4:51 Hasselbeck tipped for the third time today by Takeo Spikes over the middle (3rd/4)
4:46 Rice near the right sideline for a first down, 11 yards to the BUF 47
4:26 screen pass left to Alexander underthrown and nearly intercepted. Incredible. Just incredible.
4:20 Alexander right side for about 6, flags for holding on Bobby Engram
4:02 Jackson left side catches at chains for first down (BUF 37)
3:37 Hasselbeck runs left side, slides to BUF 31, no call on the after-slide plow
3:00 Alexander right side for 3 (3rd/3)
2:22 Hasselbeck hurried, underthrown over middle to Jackson...his legs gave out on the play (4th/3)
###2:17 Mili down right sideline incomplete through hands
RUN IT UP! RUN IT UP! RUN IT UP!
>> 8th Buffalo possession (BUF 30)
2:11 McGahee right side for no gain
1:37 flags, false start Buffalo
1:20 screen play nearly picked by Marcus Tubbs (3rd/15)
1:13 Moulds over middle to the BUF 30, short of chains
Well, it's a three-and-out, but it's too little too late.
>> 7th Seattle possession (SEA 34)
0:22 pass down right sideline through defender Terrence McGee's hands
0:17 Alexander outside for left, no gain
There's your third quarter. I'm getting ready for the 15-minute coronation of the Bills as winners of this here ballgame. This will be their first road win of the year. Pathetic.
4TH QUARTER
14:57 Spikes has nothing but turf inbetween him and Hasselback. That's a SACK. That's the GAME.
14:32 Boulware false start
>> 9th Buffalo possession (BUF 32, fair catch)
14:13 McGahee through middle for 3
13:43 McGahee right side for 2 (3rd/5)
12:44 Moulds over the middle for 24 yards and a first down
12:18 pass to Smith for 4
11:41 Bledsoe throws away right side (3rd/6)
11:33 Moulds right side short of chains (4th/1)
10:50 Buffalo calls timeout before Lindell kicks from 48
***10:39 McGahee TOUCHDOWN after a fake sneak...pitchback outside down the left sideline. GOLDEN. ABSOLUTELY GOLDEN (BUF 31-3)
If it wasn't clear already, Mike Holmgren and his staff have been thoroughly outcoached today. A trick play on fourth-and-1. The Seahawks totally bit on the sneak. That was hilarious. If you can bear to watch NFL Primetime tonight, watch for that play.
>> 8th Seattle possession (flags, holding on Seattle, SEA 5)
10:26 pass right side Mili had it in hands, dropped it...pass a little high
10:22 Jackson catch on the right sideline for a first down (10 yd, SEA 15)
10:03 dumpoff right side Strong for 4
###9:20 Hasselbeck comes toward line, fumbles, Bills recover

7:40 McGahee outside right breaks tackle, nearly hits paydirt again, down at 0.5-yd line
7:14 McGahee through on the left side...RUN IT UP!!! (BUF 38-3)
My goodness, I wish I would have gone to Vegas and thrown down a few c-notes on the Bills. However, I don't gamble, so no big payday for me.
>> 9th Seattle possession (SEA 28)
7:04 pitchback Morris outside left to SEA 33
6:32 pass right side Morris for first down (6 yd, SEA 39)
6:13 Hasselbeck throws away right side after two Bills were coming toward him
6:07 Urban makes big catch downfield after ball was tipped, first down (20 yd, BUF 41)
5:31 pass over middle Stevens for 21 yards and a first down
4:59 Stevens over the middle for 6
4:22 Morris to the 8 after Hasselbeck scrambles (1st/G)
3:49 Urban looks like had made a TD catch, but it's ruled incomplete...on second glance, it did hit the ground. Holmgren red flags it anyway, for some reason. Call stands
3:49 Buffalo timeout
3:45 Hasselbeck rushed, throws away to right side
***3:41 Engram over the middle for a touchdown, two-point conversion no good (BUF 38-9)
Yup. Don't care.
>> 11th Buffalo possession (SEA 41, Bills recover onside kick)
3:35 Burns through left side for 6
2:52 rollout Euhus left for first down, 17 yards to SEA 18
2:13 Burns for no gain left side
1:57 Burns through middle for 4
1:12 Burns through middle to 12
###0:27 Burns left side for no gain
>> 10th Seattle possession (SEA 13)
0:23 Morris through the middle for 5
BILLS 38, SEAHAWKS 9
I don't care that this team is in first place, I don't care if they're still in first place if the Rams lose in Green Bay. THIS TEAM SUCKS. We keep waiting and waiting for them to turn the corner, and they never do. I'm tired of waiting. See what I just said? Some people thought the same thing about the Mariners last April and May, and they never turned the corner (granted, they never had the fast start).
The Seattle Seahawks are the worst division leader in the NFL right now. If the Rams win tomorrow night in Green Bay, the Seahawks won't be in first place. Really, though, the Seahawks don't deserve to be in first place. The fact that they're even close to it is a testament to how crappy the NFC West is. This is sickening. If the Seahawks finish 8-8 and get a playoff spot (doubtful), I think they should just forfeit it and give it to a more worthy team. They are just crap right now. I think this team would be lucky to go 9-7 right now. I really do.
I don't think I'll have too much to bring to the table about this Seahawk loss in the daily post. They just got outeverything'd today. There's no other way to say it. The offense never got off the ground, Shaun Alexander was a nonfactor (13 carries/39 yds), etc. The offense not getting off the ground also was a slap in the face to the defense when they got those interceptions. The Bills went 2-for-7 on third down in the second half, but it was much too late. They finished 9-for-15 on third down.
Ken Hamlin with two picks is probably the player of the game, though I can't remember how many times he got burned -- Seattle's pass coverage (especially in the first half on third down) was awfully crappy today.
In other news, the Sonics will try to complete the crappy Seattle doubleheader tonight at the Key against Indiana.
In happier news, the 20-2 Puget Sound Tomahawks play home games in Bremerton on Friday and Saturday against Kootenay.
Well, I know what I want out of this football game today. I want a win, though I know with the Bills' defense and the Seahawks' offense being nowhere close to clicking, even as this is Week 12 on the schedule.

4:51 Hasselbeck tipped for the third time today by Takeo Spikes over the middle (3rd/4)
4:46 Rice near the right sideline for a first down, 11 yards to the BUF 47

3:37 Hasselbeck runs left side, slides to BUF 31, no call on the after-slide plow
3:00 Alexander right side for 3 (3rd/3)

7:14 McGahee through on the left side...RUN IT UP!!! (BUF 38-3)
My goodness, I wish I would have gone to Vegas and thrown down a few c-notes on the Bills. However, I don't gamble, so no big payday for me.

7:04 pitchback Morris outside left to SEA 33
6:32 pass right side Morris for first down (6 yd, SEA 39)
