HEY MIKE, THIS ALEXANDER KID, HE'S GOOD...
Seahawks 23, Panthers 17
32 carries, 195 rushing yards, 1 touchdown
3 receptions, 13 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
It's about time that the Seahawks used Shaun Alexander. The Panthers radio broadcasting team brought up a great point during the game today. They said that if you have a back like Alexander, then you should use him. They were puzzled as to why the Seahawks don't use Alexander enough. Amen. You won't get that type of analysis from Steve Raible and Warren Moon.
But before I get into this post, what the hell was up with that fake field goal attempt late in the 4th quarter? I didn't see it, I could only hear it on my feed. The Seahawks were up 23-10, why the hell were they even thinking about attempting a fake field goal? Crap, Josh Brown is one of the best kickers in football, I'll take my chances with the guy.
Anyways, a few points on today's Seahawks 23-17 win over the Panthers:
---I love Shaun Alexander. Please re-sign him, Seahawks management.
---Matt Hasselbeck was better this week. Then again, that's not saying a whole lot, especially after last week's debacle in Arizona. But what was up with that interception by Brian Allen in the 2nd quarter? I'll have to watch that later on NFL Primetime.
---Darrell Jackson is the best receiver on this team, no question. But D-Jack, please hold onto the ball, alright? Thanks.
---Jerry Rice caught one ball for 6 yards. He left with a right ankle sprain. No word on the severity of it.
---The Pain Train is back. Chad Brown returns to the Seahawks' lineup, recording 3 tackles (3 full, 3 assisted).
---Karma can be a bitch. Ken Lucas didn't have a good day at all. This is what he gets for celebrating last week in Arizona before he reached the end zone.
---Donnie Jones punts one time and it was a 50-yarder. Nice job, rook.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
Hasselbeck: 21-of-30, 201 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Alexander: 195 rushing yards, 1 TD; 13 receiving yards, 1 TD
Jackson: 6 rec, 71 yards
Robinson: 3 rec, 52 yards
Trufant: 6 tackles, 1 INT
Good win for the Seahawks today. Is there still work to be done? You know it. But after the last 3 weeks, I'll take today's results.
This is what happens when you give the ball to Alexander. He ran the ball 32 times. I had hoped that Mike Holmgren would try to give Alexander the ball at least 25 times. Well, we know what their plan was. And it worked.
The Seahawks are now 4-3, tied with St. Louis on top of the NFC West. Next week, the Seahawks travel to San Francisco while the Rams host the New England Patriots. The Seahawks are 1-2 in the NFC West up to this point, with their lone divisional win coming against the 49ers on Sept. 26 (34-0). Must-win? Well, you could say that.
Before I wrap this up, Ben Roethlisberger is money. This is starting to remind me of the San Antonio Spurs when they had a horrible 1996-1997 season. Because of their horrible 1996-1997 season, they were able to draft Tim Duncan with the 1st pick overall in the 1997 NBA Draft. The Steelers have been a succesful franchise over the past few seasons, save for last season's 6-10 record. Since they were 6-10 in 2003, they had a high draft pick. So they went ahead and took Roethlisberger with the 11th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
I'm not saying that Roethlisberger will lead the Steelers to the Super Bowl in the next 3 years. But this is a theory I was thinking about earlier today. Hooray for insane theories.
Oh, and this Alexander kid, he's good.
