IT'S OFFICIAL
Starting Wednesday, the 2004 edition of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin, and now the matchups are final...
West
1 Detroit v 8 Nashville
2 San Jose v 7 Saint Louis
3 Vancouver v 6 Calgary
4 Colorado v 5 Dallas
East
1 Tampa Bay v 8 NY Islanders
2 Boston v 7 Montreal
3 Philadelphia v 6 New Jersey
4 Toronto v 5 Ottawa
What a year for Tampa bay, doing much too well for their own good. What a treat for the Boston fans, finally seeing ownership make moves to get better, especially with the Gonchar move. New Jersey is a sixth seed? Wow. I've given due props to the Canucks for sewing up the division a couple posts ago. Great job by Nashville, being a scrappy team and making the huge move for Steve Sullivan, who made them a better team. Good job also by Calgary, getting back to the playoffs for the first time in seven years, amd making the huge move for Miikka Kiprusoff, who just might be their MVP this year, even with Jarome Iginla being insanely good again.
The Canucks eliminated the Oilers last night, so one of the Canadian teams was left off the playoff palette. So it's great for the Canadian fans to have something to cheer about, but it's sort of bad in a way because four of the five Canadian teams that made it are pitted against each other in the first round.
Those 4-against-5 matchups are doozies. Colorado/Dallas is always good, though I hate both teams. Toronto and Ottawa...I think marriages may be broken up over this series in Ontario. These teams really really REALLY do not like each other.
Game On!!
