In 25 words or less: Too little too late. That's the story of the Mariners' last four games.

This one featured Horacio Ramirez going up against Bartolo Colon.

BOTTOM 6TH
Jamie Burke came in to catch for Johjima and Eric O'Flaherty came in for Mateo. Guerrero bounced a 1-2 pitch to short. Anderson golfed the second pitch for a high fly to Ichiro in deep rightcenter. Hillenbrand grounded the second pitch to second. O'Flaherty threw nine pitches.

TOP 7TH
Guillen lined out to a leaping Cabrera at short. Burke chopped a ball high off the plate and it bounced behind the mound, where Cabrera charged but couldn't come up with it, so even the catcher Burke was safe. Betancourt shot a grounder into center for a single to move Burke to second. Lopez lined a ball right to Colon, who had it go off of his backside and bounce to the third-base side, where Cabrera wasn't able to come up with it and the bases were loaded. Ichiro chopped out to first on the second pitch, allowing Burke to score and moving Betancourt and Lopez to third and second.

Beltre wasted no time, chopping out to second on the second pitch. Colon threw 15 pitches.

Colon's line: 7 innings, 1 run, 7 hits, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 77 pitches (55 strikes)

BOTTOM 7TH
Quinlan shot a grounder past Beltre for a single. Napoli popped a 1-2 pitch to Guillen in shallow right. Izturis flew out to right. Aybar tapped the second pitch out in front, and O'Flaherty came off the mound to field it and throw to first. O'Flaherty threw 12 pitches and had 21 total.

O'Flaherty's line: 2 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts, 21 pitches (16 strikes)

TOP 8TH
Darren Oliver came in for Colon. Vidro looped a 2-2 pitch along the rightfield line that landed just fair and bounced away from Guerrero (single and error). Ibañez fell behind 0-2 and lined a 1-2 pitch into left for a single to move Lopez to third. Oliver got a visit from Napoli and the pitching coach. Sexson got down 0-2 and took a 1-2 pitch straight over the outside corner. Guillen roped a 3-1 pitch into left for a single, scoring Vidro and moving Ibañez to second.

Scot Shields came in for Oliver. Burke got ahead 3-1 and walked on a high full-count pitch, loading the bases. Ben Broussard, hitting for Betancourt, whiffed on his first two pitches but worked the count full before turning on a fastball and depositing it into the bullpen over the rightfield fence. Huh? Grand slam? Yes! Grand slam! Holy crap! Make it the first pinch-hit grand slam in franchise history, no less.

Lopez grounded out to third. Ichiro whiffed on a 1-2 breaking ball in the dirt and Napoli behind the plate took it just below the throat, resulting in a bit of a delay. Ichiro bounced the next pitch to second.

Oliver's line: 1/3 inning, 3 runs, 3 hits, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 18 pitches (11 strikes)
Shields' line: 2/3 inning, 2 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts, 21 pitches (12 strikes)

BOTTOM 8TH
Chris Reitsma came in for O'Flaherty and Willie Bloomquist came in to play short. Matthews served the second pitch into right for a single. Cabrera took an 0-2 pitch when Matthews took off from first, and Matthews got his right foot in there (replays showed it), and Lopez kind of just got really close to Matthews' right leg with the tag before actually tagging Matthews. Anyway, that was enough to bring Hargrove out of the dugout for a fruitless argument with the second-base umpire. Cabrera popped the next pitch to Ichiro in rightcenter. Guerrero was intentionally walked.

George Sherrill came in for Reitsma. Anderson popped a 2-0 pitch high to Beltre in foul ground near the third-base coaches' box.

JJ Putz came in for Sherrill. Hillenbrand bounced a 1-2 pitch to Sexson, who ran the ball to first.

Reitsma's line: 1/3 inning, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts, 9 pitches (4 strikes)
Sherrill's line: 1/3 inning, 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts, 3 pitches (1 strike)
Putz' line: 1/3 inning, 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts, 4 pitches (3 strikes)

TOP 9TH
Francisco Rodriguez came in for Shields and Casey Kotchman came in to play first for Quinlan. Beltre worked a 1-2 count full before getting under a pitch, flying out very high to short. Vidro got ahead 2-0 but whiffed over a 2-2 slider down and in. Ibañez couldn't check his swing on an 0-2 slider over the outside corner.

Rodriguez' line: 1 inning, 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
